# What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-Factor Authentication adds another layer of security to your NNU accounts (i.e., Canvas, my.nnu.edu, etc.) by adding a second method of confirming your identity. It prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password.

Two-Factor Authentication requires something you know (your password) and something you have (a phone or login device) that tells the system it is really you trying to log in.
